OBJECTIVE
Paper
collage is a significant means of expression.
Collage is used to explore ideas, advocate
concepts, and develop possible directions
in which to work towards. Collage is playful,
fun, and whimsical. Collage, like our existence,
is basically a process of layering bits and
pieces to construct some semblance of cohesion.
It is built moment-by-moment. The process
is the message: each artistic decision a choice,
each layer, a meaning upon meaning.
Most
collages are narrative. Whether abstract or
figurative, the very fact that collage is
created with "borrowed" elements
from other media, makes it a more complex
art form. Collage, in essence, derives its
meaning from using ordinary elements (newspaper
clippings, old photographs, etc.) and altering
them to create them anew. It re-combines disparate
elements and reshapes them into a different
reality. There can be something liberating
about making a collage. It's an art where
one is allowed to be messy, funky, interpretive
and personal.
Instructor:
Leslea
Harmon
Leslea M. Harmon is a writer from New Albany,
Indiana. Married to local area photographer
Stephen A Harmon, she is the mom of three
boys and squeezes in daily time for journaling
between teaching art to children, helping
her husband with his business, and writing
her first novel. As the instructor for our
journaling class, Leslea is no stranger to
self-expression or the struggles and complications
of living with multiple sclerosis. With a
busy work and home life, Leslea finds that
taking even the smallest amount of time to
express what is going on in your life is essential
to moving forward in life and being productive.
