OBJECTIVES

This lecture is for the African American population who are diagnosed with MS. Mobility often becomes a concern as MS progresses. There are definite actions that one can take to help maintain their mobility. No matter what level of mobility you are currently at, this program will give you great pointers on staying fit.

Directions

From Downtown:

  • Take the 2nd Street Bridge North.
  • Turn right at the first light onto Court Avenue.
  • Take your very next right onto North Shore Drive.
  • At the stop sign turn left onto Southern Indiana Avenue
  • Go through the next stop sign, the hotel entrance is on your left.

From East or South End:

  • Take I-65 North over Ohio River Bridge
  • Take the Indiana Exit #0
  • Turn left on to Court Avenue
  • Right after overpass you will turn left on to North Shore Drive
  • At the stop sign turn left onto Southern Indiana Avenue

This is a MUST SEE program with three outstanding research neurologists. It will be important for those who might be failing current therapies or those who are just curious about what is down the road for MS therapies.

Presenters:

Joseph R. Berger, M.D.

Joseph R. Berger, M.D., is the Ruth L. Works Professor of Neurology and Chairman of the University of Kentucky, Department of Neurology. He obtained his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his Neurology Residency at the Hadassah Hospital, Hebrew University, in Jerusalem, Israel and Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami School of Medicine, in Miami, Florida. He is certified in Internal Medicine and Neurology. His clinical interests include the Neurological Aspects of AIDS and HIV Infection, Infectious Diseases of the Nervous System, Neurologic Complications of Systemic Illness, and Multiple Sclerosis.

David H. Mattson, M.D., Ph.D.

David H Mattson, M.D., Ph.D. is Professor of Neurology and Director of the Neuroimmunology/Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Mattson is in charge of the comprehensive Indiana University Multiple Sclerosis Center, which is an interdisciplinary program involving coordinated care by neurology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, urology, social work, and nursing. Dr. Mattson received his medical degree at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, where he also received a Ph.D. in Immunology. He completed his medicine internship and neurology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Cary L. Twyman, M.D.

Cary L. Twyman, M.D. studied at Northwestern University in Illinois where he earned merit being recognized by the American Chemical Society. Earning his medical degree from the University of Illinois, he continued his education at Southwestern Michigan Area Health Education Center and completed his residency and fellowship training at Georgetown University. Dr. Twyman is Board Certified in Neurology and has been involved in the publication and presentation of research articles. He consults in general neurology and has special interest in multiple sclerosis. Dr. Twyman has been in private practice in Lexington since 1986, and sees patients in Lexington and Corbin.
